The city was founded by Phoenicians and was built over the ancient city known as Kition. The population presently reaches 72.000. The city is important tourist resort and second commercial port in Cyprus. The largest, very modern airport in Cyprus is situated on the outskirts of the city. The well known signature of Larnaca is picturesque seafront known as “Phinikoudes”, with the row of palm trees and many restaurants and cafes along the sea front promenade. Near Larnaca International Airport lays The Salt Lake which is dry summer time and fills with water winter time. From November till March we can observe the flocks of flamingoes which have found their home there during this period. In the centre of the town is located the finest example of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus –Church of St Lazarus built in 10th century on the tomb of the saint. The most important place to visit in Larnaca is the ruins of city kingdom of Kition which history reaches 13 century B.C. Worth to bee seen as well is Pieridis Museum of Antiquities.Out of the town stands the aqueduct (illuminated at night) built in Roman style in 1745 to carry water into the town.

Larnaca has subtropical Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and cool rainy winters. Summer season begins in May and finishes in October or sometimes in early November and weather is sunny every day and rain is rare.
