All About Limassol

Limassol is a beautifully located, the second-largest city in Cyprus after the capital Nicosia, with a population of 228,000 (2008) is the biggest municipality on the island and the largest city in geographical size. It is nestled at the southern coast of the island on Akrotiri Bay and is actually one of the most important trade, maritime, tourism, commercial and service centres in the area. Limassol became the biggest port in the Mediterranean transit trade and has two ports commonly called “new port “and “old port”. The old port is usually used by fishing boats but new port has the greatest commercial and passenger flow of traffic and it is the biggest port in Cyprus. The new marina will be finished in 2011 which will offer a place for around 1.000 small and big ocean-going yachts and additionally facilities for accommodation, business conferences and dinning out. 

The city offers a lot of attractions as well as luxurious accommodation facilities for a wide range of tourists. It is famous in the whole island for its festivals like Carnival and wine Festival in September which offers for everyone a lot of joy and variety entertainment for all ages. Limassol attracts millions of tourists every year and it makes this city the one of the most popular tourism destinations in Cyprus.

The beautiful sea side attracts the tourists as well as many museums and ancient archaeological sites. Like the Medieval museum located in medieval castle situated in the centre of Old Town or Archaeological museum with a unique collection of antiques from Neolithic Age to the Roman period. Limassol has subtropical Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and cool rainy winters. Summer season begins in May and finishes in October or sometimes in early November and weather is sunny every day and rain is rare.
